We help construction firms communicate their narratives in a strategic way to win high-stakes bids, attract top talent, and build a reputation that opens doors.
A top-tier team with decades of experience…
Uncompromising commitment to quality…
Impressive track record…
Strong reputation…
These aren’t differentiators. They’re table stakes. The minimum bar for any firm serious about winning work. And, if that’s all you’re leading with, you’ll struggle to stand out in a crowded field where everyone touts the same qualifications. The difference between winning the bid and second place is a razor-thin margin…a game of inches.
In critical pursuits like trying to win the work, attract top-tier talent, earn stakeholder trust, or stand out in a sea of sameness, facts and figures aren’t going set you apart. What wins is connection. To the client’s mission, the community’s needs, or the deeper impact your team delivers.
People remember the story behind the structure…the challenges overcome, the lives changed, the purpose built into every beam.
We help you craft that story so your impact is more than seen.
It’s unforgettable.
About This Film
When our client set out to win a $270M skilled nursing facility project at the California Veterans Home, they knew a bid like everyone else’s wouldn’t set them apart. They needed a story that spoke to the heart of the project and the people it would serve. As we listened, a powerful detail emerged: they had intentionally hired veteran-owned subcontractors to help build the facility.
So we leaned into that detail.
This film didn’t exactly follow our typical format. We decided to simply introduce the subcontractors as people…veterans sharing their stories of service and their role in bringing the project to life.
And that authenticity gave our client the edge.
We know winning a project of this scale requires many factors, but we’re proud to have helped shape a narrative that resonated; not just with decision-makers, but with the veterans this facility was built for. It’s not our most polished film and we’ve come a long way since then, but we hold it up as the one that lit a fire for us. The project that showed us how powerful construction stories can be.
Our signature documentary style is built specifically for construction, not generic content creation. We are intentionally selective about our client list. We don’t work with everyone, just those who are playing to win. We partner best with:
As award-winning filmmakers, we specialize in brand-forward documentaries that resonate well beyond the jobsite.
Most project videos focus on specs and stats, then get buried in the YouTube graveyard. We work hard to capture the innovation, human impact, and craftsmanship that set your work apart, and our films are crafted with intention to move the needle in pursuits, perception, and positioning.
Want to know HOW we move the needle?
Neuroscience shows that people make decisions emotionally before justifying them logically, which is what makes story so powerful. We start by fully understanding your client’s vision, mission and impact and make that the foundation of the story. We then highlight your role in enabling the client to fully realize their goals through the completed project. Your commitment to your client’s success is lived out through values like quality, craftsmanship, teamwork, vision and going above and beyond. By combining our psychology-backed storytelling process with cinematic production, we craft films that educate, inspire, and leave a lasting impact.
Our films are designed to be a long-term, legacy-defining asset that reinforces your leadership and reputation in the marketplace.
To cement your legacy as a sought-after builder, wrap videos like everyone else’s aren’t going to cut it.

About This Film
Woodworker Mike Nelson isn’t just building benches, he’s preserving the history of Aggie Square.
This film is the second in a two-part series exploring the landscape architecture and outdoor design that finish off the project. The benches Mike crafts aren’t made from ordinary lumber. They come from trees that once stood on the site, removed to make way for progress, but repurposed to remain part of the space.
Instead of discarding valuable materials, the landscape architect saw an opportunity—to transform the past into something both functional and beautiful. This thoughtful approach to sustainability and design ensures that Aggie Square’s outdoor spaces aren’t just well-planned, but deeply connected to the land they were built on.
Early in my career, I held press credentials to The Senate Press Gallery, The White House and the Governor’s Press Office in Sacramento, capturing news as a freelance photojournalist. I was documenting events like presidential inaugurations, State Of The Union addresses, hearings and more. That work led to an appointment from Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger as his Chief Photographer.
Through all that work, I discovered a love for authentic, documentary storytelling. For the last dozen years or so, my work has shifted from still photography to motion pictures and my passion for the craft has only deepened.
Throughout my professional life, I’ve worked in multiple industries in different capacities - from leading a team of 100+ team members in one of the fastest growing wireless companies in the country, traveling the Seven Seas working for a cruise line, guiding white water rafting trips in the Northwest, to many years as a pastor and chaplain - but the through line is people. I’m driven by hearing people’s stories and curious about what motivates people and discovering their uniqueness, which is why I love my role getting to find great stories in unexpected places and share them to offer others a fresh perspective on people, companies and their missions.
Filmmaking has been my passion since my teenage years, a love that led me to pursue a degree in Digital Film Production at Grand Canyon University. My journey has taken me across different aspects of filmmaking—from shooting and editing to directing and producing.
At Portlight, working on a diverse range of projects has sharpened my ability to create stories that speak. That passion for storytelling extended beyond my day-to-day work when I traveled last year to my home country of Ukraine for six weeks, documenting the lives of people navigating life in a war zone. That experience challenged my perspective on the role of a filmmaker in capturing truth and continues to shape my approach to documentary storytelling.
Grady is a graduate of Digital Film Production from Grand Canyon University. Starting in middle school, Grady began exploring his creative pursuits in video production. Through the years, his expertise in creatively using the various tools from cameras and lights to software and technology has deepened. Every project is an opportunity to explore something new and with the speed with which AI is changing the filmmaking landscape, there’s an endless amount of avenues to discover.
